When your home no longer fits your life, moving isn’t always the answer. A well-designed home extension adds the space you need while keeping you in the neighbourhood, school zone, and community you’ve built your life around. For Sydney homeowners in the Eastern Suburbs, Inner West, North Shore, and Northern Beaches, HA Constructions has been delivering home extensions since 2015 — extensions that feel like they were always part of the original home.

We work closely with architects and designers to bring your vision to life with the level of finish your home deserves. Every extension we build is the product of careful planning, skilled tradespeople, and a commitment to workmanship that holds up long after we’ve handed over the keys. Whether you’re adding a ground-floor living area, a new bedroom wing, or opening up your kitchen to the backyard, we have the experience and the team to do it properly.

Second-Storey Additions

When land is limited, building up is the answer. We design and construct second-storey additions that integrate seamlessly with your existing structure, adding bedrooms, bathrooms, or living space above.

Open-Plan Conversions

Many extensions involve removing walls and reconfiguring your existing layout to create open, flowing spaces. We manage all structural work, including engineer-certified beam installations and load-bearing alterations.

End-to-End Project Management

Our Process

How We Work

Free Initial Consultation

We start with a conversation — on site, at your home. We listen to what you want to achieve, walk through the space with you, and give you an honest assessment of what's possible. There's no obligation and no sales pressure. Just a straightforward discussion with a builder who knows what questions to ask.

Design Collaboration and Planning

If you have an architect or designer, we work directly alongside them to make sure the construction documentation reflects what's been designed. If you're yet to engage one, we can point you toward professionals we've worked with on projects across Sydney. Once plans are confirmed, we prepare a detailed fixed-price quotation so you know exactly what the build will cost before work begins.

Approvals and Pre-Construction

We manage the approval process, whether that's a complying development certificate or a full development application through your local council. We handle the coordination with certifiers and engineers, and we keep you informed at every step. Construction doesn't start until every approval is in place and every subcontractor is scheduled.

Construction and Handover

Once on site, we work with a consistent crew of skilled tradespeople who take pride in what they build. You'll have direct access to us throughout the project — not a call centre or a site supervisor you've never met. We conduct a thorough walkthrough with you at practical completion and we're available after handover if anything needs attention.

Why Choose Us

Why Homeowners Choose HA Constructions

Workmanship That Earns Referrals

Most of our home extension projects come to us through word of mouth. Homeowners who’ve lived in their finished extension refer us to their neighbours, their friends, and their family. That kind of reputation isn’t built through advertising — it’s built through consistent attention to detail, quality materials, and finishes that hold up to scrutiny years after completion. We’re proud of the work we do, and the work speaks for itself.
We work with a select number of projects at a time so that every client receives genuine, attentive service. You’ll deal with the same people from your first consultation through to handover. We communicate clearly at each stage, flag anything that requires your input before it becomes a problem, and collaborate closely with your architect or designer to make sure the finished build matches the vision you started with.
HA Constructions is a fully licensed NSW Builder, registered with the NSW Building Commission, a member of the Housing Industry Association (HIA), and fully insured. Every home extension begins with a detailed fixed-price quotation — so the number we agree on at the start is the number you pay. We’ve operated this way since we were established in 2015, and it’s the foundation of the trust our clients place in us.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

01. Do I need council approval for a home extension in Sydney?

Most home extensions in Sydney require some form of approval, either a Complying Development Certificate (CDC) or a Development Application (DA) through your local council. Which pathway applies to your project depends on factors including the size of the extension, your property’s zoning, and any heritage overlays. We assess this early in the process and manage the approvals on your behalf, so you understand what’s required before any costs are committed.
A straightforward ground-floor extension typically takes between 12 and 20 weeks from the start of construction, depending on the size and complexity of the work. Second-storey additions generally take longer due to the additional structural work involved. Pre-construction — including design finalisation, approvals, and procurement — adds time before the build begins, which we factor into the project schedule we provide upfront so your expectations are set accurately from the start.
Home extension costs in Sydney vary considerably based on size, level of finish, structural complexity, and site conditions. As a general guide, ground-floor extensions typically start from $150,000–$200,000 for a modest addition, while larger or more complex projects will cost more. We provide detailed fixed-price quotations after reviewing your plans and site, so you receive a real number rather than a rough estimate. Our free initial consultation is the best starting point for understanding what your specific project is likely to cost.
In many cases, yes. Whether you can remain in the home during construction depends on the scope of the work, particularly whether it involves opening up the roof, removing external walls, or significantly disrupting key areas like the kitchen or main bathroom. We discuss this with every client during the planning phase and design the construction sequence to minimise disruption wherever possible. If temporary relocation is necessary for part of the build, we’ll advise you well in advance.
We work with your architect or designer. If you already have someone engaged, we collaborate directly with them from the beginning to ensure the construction process reflects the design intent accurately. If you haven’t yet engaged an architect, we can refer you to professionals we’ve worked with on previous projects across Sydney who understand our building standards and how we work. Either way, the goal is a seamless process from design through to handover.
